I believe the generous person is a contented person. The generous people I know have learned to be content in times of plenty and need, health and sickness, defeat and victory, weakness and strength. Their contentment arises out of their identity, security, and comfort in Christ. The acquisition of wealth cannot increase it nor can the disintegration of wealth compromise it. Christ is the Source and Sustainer of our contentment.
Finally, I believe it is the will of God that we become generous in every aspect of our life. But God will never ask us to do what He has not first done for us. As John wrote: “This is love, not that we first loved God but that God first loved us” (1John 4.10). God is the first to love. Let’s finish a close second!
