The sermon below is last week's message. Unfortunately, due to technical glitches, this week's follow-up message did not record. However, you can click below on the link for this week's PDF of the sermon slides to get the main points from this week's message. This PDF also includes some additional notes which I hope you will find helpful.
This week we begin to look more closely at Romans 1.16-2.3. People familiar with this passage bristle with discomfort or brandish it as a weapon to judge others. Neither response reflects the aim of Paul's teaching. The truth is anyone can point out sin. The surprise is that there is One who can save us from it (Romans 1.16-17). Reflection on the RUIN we share will always lead those who seek to follow Jesus well to confess and celebrate our Good News Savior who has redeemed us for God ... we will continue to examine this passage next week.
This week we take a scenic detour from Romans to look at Galatians 2.20. Here we learn how to live a RUINED life as we look at the significance and relevance of the Cross of Jesus for living life that is alive to God and others.
Romans 1.16-17 is a twist ending that is so preposterous we would never believe it because there are no clues that our story could ever end this way… But when we read Romans 1.18-3.31 through the eyeglasses of Romans 1.16-17 we see that the clues were everywhere.
This week was a family celebration with sport commentators calling the UFC contest between David and Goliath along with a fresh look at the account in 1 Samuel 17 ...because there is more to this story than you know!
This week we continue to look at Paul's astonishing and very personal statement declaring the wonder of God's Gospel. This week we look at 5 more aspects of the Gospel (Good News) that Paul celebrates in the opening sentences of this deeply personal letter.
This week we discuss Romans 1.16-17. Here Paul makes an astonishing and powerful psychological disclosure: "I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ..." This week we consider what triggered Paul's life-long freedom from shame and the invitation that God presents to us today.
